This is the cheapest option.
The 28X flyer leaves the airport every 20 minutes on weekdays and every half hour during the weekend.
For $1.90 (you need exact change) it will bring you directly to downtown and continue on to CMU.

The bus leaves right outside the baggage claim (ask at the information desk if you need more detailed directions).

Ask to get off at the corner of 6th Street and Liberty Ave. The hotel is on your left.

The "Yellow Cab" Taxis will drive you to the hotel for ~ $40. You have to give a 15% tip to the driver.

Rental car:
It takes about 30 minutes to drive from the Pittsburgh International Airport to downtown Pittsburgh.

Driving from the Pittsburgh International Airport to the Renaissance Pittsburgh Hotel:

  • Pittsburgh - PIT (26 mi NE) From the airport via PA 60 South, take US 22/30 East, which becomes I-279 North (Parkway West), and follow it through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and onto the Fort Pitt Bridge. Take the Liberty Avenue Exit (Exit 9, the middle exit of 3 exists) and proceed down the ramp to the traffic light. Continue straight on Liberty Avenue through a large intersection to Sixth Street. At the traffic light turn left onto Sixth Street. Follow Sixth Street for two blocks and the hotel will be on your right.
